Open call for the third round of the “Scattered Communities” program

Open call for the third round of the “Scattered Communities” program

What if.

What if a farewell that never happened doesn’t count?

What if this has all happened before, a hundred times over, but we have learned from history and now know how to act?

What if that which scattered us is also that which seeds us?And what if it isn’t?

What if this generation of artists, separated by borders, will never meet physically again? Not all of them, of course, but a certain part? How then do we hold together a fragmented artistic process and the history of Ukrainian (contemporary) art happening in different places? They say this isn’t the first time, but it’s the first time it’s happening exactly like this.

What if, what if, what if. What if death (many ways to end this sentence, but all have been deleted)? What if life (will tell)?

“Scattered Communities” is a program for artists who have remained in Ukraine or left due to the war. For the third time, we are supporting collective works by artists who, despite/through borders, reflect on the diversity of experiences, migration, and the ruptures within communities.

This time, we are looking for already formed artistic collaborations (duos/trios) that have a clear vision of the space(s) for presenting their work. We are focusing on compelling artistic formats with the potential for replication and social resonance. We also ask ourselves: what can artistic dialogue and co-authorship look like when part of the community cannot meet physically? Each collaboration will receive mentorship and financial support of up to €8,000 to realize a joint artistic work. We will also continue our format of closed online discussions and public artist talks.

Timeline & Process: The third round will run from February to September 2026, with a two-stage application process:

  • Stage 1: Submit a short concept from your duo/trio via link by February 16. You can preview the application questions here.
  • Stage 2: In the second half of February, selected collaborations will be invited to submit a full application with a detailed idea, budget, and implementation plan.

Key Dates:

  • Results announcement: March.
  • Online meetings: April – August.
  • Public artist talks: June and August.
  • Project implementation: The focus is on realizing and presenting several compelling collaborations by the end of July 2026.

We plan to support 3 to 5 artistic collaborations. There are no disciplinary restrictions: we welcome visual, performative, auditory, audiovisual, and text-based projects, digital art, as well as any formats of interdisciplinary cooperation.
